An Outdoor Paradise in Northern Ontario

Only four-hours north of Toronto, the West End of Lake Nipissing and the Upper French River provide hundreds of miles of scenic shorelines, with many back bays and rocky islands. Boaters can pull up to un-inhabited islands to explore, have a swim on many of the natural sandy beaches or enjoy a shore-lunch of freshly caught fish.

You'll find hundreds of square miles of wilderness providing great opportunities for hunting, fishing, canoeing, nature watching/photography and relaxing!

Fishing Fish species include walleye, large and small mouth bass, pan fish, northern pike, perch and the giant musky. Trout can be found in small streams and lakes in the northern portion of our area.

Hunting In the fall great numbers of migrating geese and ducks settle in the large wetlands/marshes and quiet island bays in the area. There is an abundance of grouse, small upland game, deer, moose and bear.

Nature/bird watching Our mixed boreal forests are home to moose, deer, bear, lynx, wolverine, beaver, martin, mink, grouse, snowshoe hare, to name a few and bird-watchers will delight throughout the seasons to see such species as sand hill cranes, blue herons, ospreys and bald eagles.

Accommodations You can choose from; camps, lodges, trailer parks, campgrounds and motels/hotels. Many are located in relatively remote and isolated areas where you can enjoy peace and quiet.

Activities/Attractions You are never too far away from several small villages and larger urban centres with modern shopping, fine restaurants, centres for performing arts, local craft shops, spas and science. Many good golf courses are located throughout the local region. There are also many beautiful and unique parks and nature conservation areas to visit.

Winter The many groomed trails provide for great snowmobiling and the area is famous for its ice-fishing. Moderate terrain makes for excellent snow shoeing and cross-country skiing. This area, in the winter, enjoys a high percentage of sunny days with usually 2-4 feet of good snow in the bush.

Through the combined efforts of local tourist outfitters, native groups and the MNR we are improving the fishery on Lake Nipissing and the French River with projects such as annual walleye restocking and spawning bed rehabilitation. This will help ensure that many more generations of vacationers and our own children will enjoy this great outdoor paradise.
